Usherwood Take Your Child to Work Day Highlights IT, Cybersecurity, Customer Service & More

Usherwood

On Thursday April 24th, 2024, Usherwood Office Technology hosted its annual Take Your Child to Work Day at its Syracuse headquarters. Employees took the opportunity to highlight their work and unique day-to-day operations in IT, sales, customer service, logistics, and HR administration.

Immersive Learning to Generate Excitement in Tech

The kids were split up by age group to tour Usherwood and learn about what their parents do. They were able to see first-hand activities related to Usherwood services including managed IT, managed print, managed communication, and security. These activities offered an immersive experience with demonstrations from several Usherwood experts.

The tour started with a presentation from HR Director Brittani O’Connell, then a sales presentation from Kathleen Magnarelli, Director of Sales-Central Region. Afterwards, Usherwood’s director of IT Services John Daniel gave a presentation about social media cyber-safety. He also talked to the kids about how a Technical Assistance Center (TAC) team functions.

The tour proceeded to a presentation from Director of Client Services Briana George including a game of “telephone” to demonstrate the importance of effective communication. Usherwood is an award-winning technology provider known for excellent client service, so this was an important aspect of the tour.

Then, groups moved on to a finance presentation from Controller Meredith Howe and Director of Sales Support & Agreement Management Erin Williams. Here, kids got a rundown of how a finance team works, and the interesting aspects of managing money in an organization.

A Look into Logistics and the Warehouse

After initial presentations, tour groups got a glimpse into the ins and outs of logistics with Cassandra George and Melissa Williamson, Usherwood’s logistics coordinators for administration and sales, respectively.

Afterwards, they moved to a tour of the distribution center, where techs are often seen assembling and working on print products Usherwood supplies before they are shipped to clients. There, they enjoyed a demonstration of hard drive shredding as a means of proactive cybersecurity.

To round out the experience, kids enjoyed a marketing activity with Scott Titus, Usherwood’s Marketing Director. There, they were broken up into teams to create products to sell and design marketing plans to promote them

Inspiring Youth to Pursue Technology Career Paths

Overall, the children, aged 3 months to 18 years old, experienced several different aspects of life at Usherwood.
