Usherwood Office Technology, a provider of office technology, managed services and business solutions throughout the Northeast region of the United States, is marking its 50th anniversary, reflecting on five decades of growth, innovation, and service to customers, employees and the communities it serves. 

From a Family Home to a Regional Technology Leader

Founded in 1976 by Charles and Carol Usherwood, Usherwood began as a family-run business operating out of the first floor of their home in Oswego, New York. Built on hard work, technical expertise, and a strong belief in doing right by customers, the company quickly established a reputation for dependable service and forward-thinking solutions, a tradition that has remained consistent as it has expanded. Those early values laid the foundation for a culture that still defines the company today.

“The one cultural component that stays from the very beginning till today is the culture of family,” said Charlie Usherwood, the company’s Chief Technology Officer. “We have always believed in treating employees and clients like members of our family. That approach has fueled our growth and still drives the way we build trust and make long-lasting relationships today.”

Evolving Alongside Workplace Technology

Over the past 50 years, Usherwood has continuously evolved alongside workplace technology. From early days servicing typewriters, copiers, and fax machines to becoming one of the first companies in the nation to offer a total office solution. That commitment continues today through IT services, cybersecurity, cloud communications, security and surveillance, and more.

A People-First Culture at the Core

The company credits its success to a people-first culture. Usherwood has been named one of Central New York’s Best Places to Work for over a decade and has consistently earned Elite Dealer honors within the office technology industry.

“In 2013, Usherwood won one of the Best Places to Work in Syracuse. That’s your employees telling others they like coming to your office. There can be no higher compliment to an owner of a business than that,” said Lou Usherwood, Chief Executive Officer.

Employees say Usherwood is a place where teamwork, respect, and career growth come together. That culture has allowed the company to grow through three generations of family leadership while holding fast to its founding principles.

“The mission for the third generation is to execute what the first and second generations built and that’s continuing to deliver world-class services to our clients,” said Lindsay Usherwood, General Counsel.
